Hijacked Blog

I have decided to hijack this blog from hubby and document my thesis progress instead. I know, so much more interesting than traveling and going out, right? Now now don't worry dedicated reader (if you are still out there) we will still use this blog to update you on our many adventures. I just thought it would be fun to share my work in progress and get feedback from friends and family on my work.

For example, my next blog post will be a contest. I am looking to have someone help me come up with a title for my thesis. More details to come soon, but for those who know what my thesis is about you have a head start on coming up with a banging title. And for those who don't, never fear. I will post a synopsis of the work for you to get a better understanding and hopefully help you to  create an attention-grabbing title.

Oh and the prize you say? Well the lucky winner whose title is chosen will receive a special thank you on my dedication page of the thesis and a copy of it. Hmmmm... I don't know if that is a prize or a punishment. Anyway, I can use all the help you can send in coming up with a title.

Thanks in advance and watch for my next post for the contest details!

Sam and Jerry are...In Bruges!

Greetings True-Believers!

It is I, Severus Snape. I bet you all thought I had bit the bullet. As if! Like I wouldn't have, like, fifty back-up plans to get myself out of a near-death encounter with a snake. I'm a wizard, people. Like I would go out like a sucka. Pleaze!

Original Gangsta

Okay, you got me, I'm not really Severus, but really, what a waste of a character. Bitten by a snake? Really?

Anyways, on to the main event. A week or so ago, it was the ninth of August, better known nation-wide as Sam and Jerry day. We put down the novels and video game controllers to head out to first circle of Hell, otherwise known as a summer day in downtown Utah.

C'mon kids!  The flames of the burning wicked aren't so high today!

Upon a suggestion from Miss Kristine, Sam and I ventured to a cute little nook across the street from Pioneer Park (otherwise known as Needle Park from my associates in the hood). It is known by locals as...

Bruges Waffles and Frites

Also known as Delicious

Reminiscent of Waffle and Frites Houses I had frequented as a small boy growing up in Bruges, the local eatery is a quaint little place run by humble, waffle-making Brugians (???), who specialize in making a few dishes from a limited menu, two of which should be apparent.

An extra hint for the readers.
As seen above, you may enjoy a Cinnamon or Vanilla flavored waffle, with an assortment of toppings to choose from. The Pomme Frites by themselves are just fantastic, but Bruges offers a wide variety of flavored mayonnaise to dip into. There is as well the "Machine Gun Sandwich", which by all accounts should have its own blog entry. Truly, the food was remarkable. If you have a hankerin' to get some real eatin' done, your first stop should be here.

The Machine Gun Sandwich: the sandwich to rule them all

A Pomme Frites dipped in a Green onion and Chive Mayo. Yum.

After our grand feasting, Sam and I partook in some Tuesday Farmers Market, and overall had a most enjoyable anniversary. Thank you to everyone who sent us happy anniversary wishes. As a special treat...

Enjoy a picture of a cat.
Smelly cat says "hay". With her foot.
Adios ready-readers!

Sam and Jerry are ...in two different places...AT THE SAME TIME!

How was this possible? Unfortunately, Jerry had to work last Saturday. While I would've been content with lying in bed, pining for my late husband (Walmart = DEATH), I pulled myself out of my misery to enjoy spending time with my mom and sisters in downtown Salt Lake.

Mom and Becky at the Beer Tent, enjoying themselves immensely.

Spectacular food was to be had everywhere! It was a blissful pastry utopia!

Where was I, you ask?

= FOOD HEAVEN!
The Salt Lake City Farmers Market, a gathering of local farmers, delicatessens, patisseries, and crafty people. We all had a wonderful time sampling local food, and I cannot wait to go back for another visit. This time I will bring Jerry along I promise!

Sam and Jerry are...In the Past?!!?! (Great Scott!)

Hey Everyone,

It's been a slow couple of weeks for us this past July. It's also been hotter than heck, and we've been perfectly content with just staying inside with Central Air. Sam has been indulging her new-found addiction to Bleach, which has given me plenty of time to...replay old video games.

*Sigh*

Livin' the dream
While the temptation to lapse into a daze of mindless gaming is well...tempting, it wouldn't make for a very good read. So lace up your 80's Nikes and grab your retro vests time travelers! It's time for a trip...

TO THE PAST!!!!

Ohhh Yeah!

Today (or yesterday?) the destination of our time-traveling shenanigans is one of our trips to Hogle Zoo. Located near SLC across from This Is The Place (another story entirely), Hogle Zoo offers a wide variety of of exotic creatures in animal-friendly habitats. In fact, the zoo is such a terrific habitat for these animals that they are accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. While on our visit, we happened upon strange and magnificent creatures, such as...

ELEPHANTS!
Awww, its a baby one!
TIGERS!
Oh no! The Eye of the Tiger!
DINOSAURS!
Holy Crap!
 THIS GUY!

Don't mind me. Just gonna finish my fruit salad.
GORILLAS IN PONCHOS!
Wait a sec...oh, very funny...
All in all, all of our trips to Hogle Zoo have been a lot of fun, and if you haven't been, I highly recommend you go. All right everyone, hop into the Delorean. Time to go...

BACK TO THE FUTURE!
Zany scientists not included.

Sam and Jerry are in...Japan! (Sort of)

Okay, so Sam and I are not really in Japan...but we could be...if we wanted to be...

Instead, we headed down to the Japan Sage Market on 1515 S. Main St. near downtown SLC
Oddly, no Sages for sale.
The market is a treasure trove of authentic Japanese food, treats and trinkets. We had a blast exploring the small store, and bought lots of delicious goodies.

Said delicious snacks
Overall, it was a good way to spend some time, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for some good Japanese treats. Here is a pic of the inside:
